Architecture
Phase 1 architecture was successful and Phase 2 needed further consideration, particularly the marker building.
More glazing or reflectiveness to the marker building façade was suggested whilst being more in line with the character of Phase 1.
Public open space
The provision of high-quality green space where people could enjoy walks, relaxation and dog walking was considered important due to a lack of this space in the area.
Local Amenities
It was welcomed that the proposals would bring more liveliness to the area, particularly through the delivery of new facilities and public open space. In particular, it was raised that there is a need for more supermarkets locally.

Architecture
The revised Phase 2 design ties into the established character of the Lower Lea Valley and is a continuation of the industrial heritage visible within Poplar Riverside phase 1.
A distinguished character has been developed between each building type, which is strengthened by the contrasting upper and lower elements to each building and the varied material palette. The facade design incorporates tidal details inspired by the neighbouring River Lea.
Glazing has been emphasised where possible by increasing the number of dual aspect homes.
Building Heights & Footprints
We have amended building heights and footprints to accommodate relevant policy requirements and emerging building regulations including the inclusion of a second escape staircase within each building of phases 2 & 3. Maximum building height remains at 28 storeys.
Public open space
We have worked to maximise placemaking by further developing the landscape proposals of the new ‘Leven Central’ green space in order to align with the needs of the community.
Leven Central will provide a quieter landscape in addition to the park, for activities such as dog walking, exercise and relaxation. We have created a series of generous raised tables along the length of the road, to slow traffic speeds and indicate pedestrian priority.
Improved routes to ensure better connectivity within the site and wider connections, including further integration of the future bridge landings.
Local Amenities
Phase 2 will deliver 3 commercial units which have been designed to line the riverside park. The units will be submitted as Planning Use ‘Class E’ in order to safeguard these units as ‘Commercial, Business and Service’ spaces to ensure they meet local demand for commercial facilities.
